Clivedon Gate

After gaining City & Guilds Creative Embroidery and a Diploma in Stitched Textiles at Windsor & Maidenhead College I went on to further study.

As a mature student I gained a BA Hons 1st Class Degree 'Art in a Community Context' at Roehampton Institute of Higher Education in 1995.

Since then I have gained a City & Guilds Further Adult Education Teachers Certificate. I have taught at East Berks College, Windsor and given Day schools on machine embroidery, and regularly give talks to various organisations.

I am Chairman of the Windsor & Maidenhead Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild, which is a worldwide charity. The branch has over eighty members and meets every month at Stubbings in Maidenhead to hear a speaker. There are also regular day schools on a Saturday held at Hurley Village Hall, Hurley. Over twenty young embroiderers aged between five and fifteen meet several times a year for practical workshops.

As chairman I have been successful over several years in gaining funding from the local Windsor & Maidenhead Council for projects and also for the Young Embroiderers.

A New Dawn

To celebrate the Millennium whilst in my capacity as Vice Chairman I designed and co-ordinated a community embroidered panel entitled 'A New Dawn' We were lucky enough to receive funding from Windsor & Maidenhead Borough Council for the work, which went to Wexham Park Hospital in the Psychiatric Department.

Fifty Years - The Fabric of Royalty

In 2002 I instigated a special exhibition entitled '50 Golden Threads' to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the first time in the history of the branch that work has been produced for a specific theme. The exhibition inspired over 50 pieces of work, which are being exhibited at two gallery venues in Windsor & Maidenhead. The Windsor Arts Centre which showed 18 pieces of work has been very successful with hundreds of people visiting and showing a great deal of interest in the variety of embroidery on show.

In 2003 the branch will be celebrating its 25th anniversary for which I have organised a special Celebration Day together with a retrospective exhibition.
